Aspirating Smoke Detection (ASD)
Aspirating smoke detection is like a "smoke sniffer" for your building. It uses a network of small pipes to constantly draw in air from throughout the building and check it for smoke particles. If any are detected, an alarm sounds to alert building occupants and emergency services.
What is aspirating smoke detection?
Aspirating smoke detection with continuous air sampling provides the earliest possible warning of an impending fire hazard. Aspirating smoke detectors buy the critical time needed to investigate an alarm and initiate an appropriate response to prevent injury, property damage or business disruption. Aspirating smoke detectors have multi-level warnings and a wide range of sensitivity that does not degrade or change over time, so even minute levels of smoke can be detected before a fire has time to escalate.
Imagine a fire alarm system that not only listens for the sound of a smoke detector, but also “tastes” the air for any trace of smoke. This is what aspirating smoke detection does – it actively draws air samples into a sensor to detect the presence of smoke particles.
